The Lamb of God
Three things John the Baptist said about Jesus:
1) I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel. Then John gave this testimony: I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ ~ John 1:31-33 ~
2) Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. ~ John 1:29~
3) He must increase but I must decrease. ~ John 3:30 ~
These verses give us insight into John the Baptist's view of our Lord Jesus Christ. We must understand that power to witness and to live the Christian life is only possible through relying on the Holy Spirit. What does the Christian life look like? Paul tells us, in Galatians 5:22, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control.
The basis of this is the forgiveness of our sins through the death of Christ as our substitutionary atonement followed by His resurrection on the third day.
In light of this, we should surrender to Him and then we shall be truly free.
