Ours the Kingdom
'Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.' — Matthew 5:3
These are the opening words of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). Jesus combines three concepts in this sentence. 'Blessed' refers to the happiness that comes from God. 'Poor in spirit' refers to those who recognize that they have sinned against God and are spiritual failures in His sight. But Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day. If we confess our need of Him and receive Christ into our hearts we become children of God. 'The Kingdom of Heaven' becomes our destiny.
