Christ, our King
Last week we considered the titles of Christ in Isaiah 9:6 leaving out the sentence "and the government shall rest upon His shoulders". This week we will reflect upon these words.
They have both a present and a future application. Currently, Christ governs in a spiritual way as He redeems people in a fallen world. He also governs in a mysterious way, the nations of the world. We cannot always see this in "this present evil age". It is interesting that in some of the most anti-Christian regions of the world, the gospel is expanding. We should pray for our own country that there will be a great move of the Holy Spirit to bring about "repentance towards God, and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ".
The future application refers to His second coming when He will judge the world and establish His kingdom.
